An overgrown garden is easier to approach when the first goal is specific: use the path again, make the lawn manageable, or uncover a garden bed. You do not need to know every plant name or prepare a complete work list before asking for help. A short description of what has become difficult is enough to start the conversation.
Choose what matters first
A reset can include mowing, edging, weeding and suitable pruning, but each property needs its own scope. Clearing everything in one visit may be unnecessary, particularly when the garden contains established plants you want to keep. Choose two or three priorities and identify anything that must stay untouched.
Think about how you use the space. A clear route from the back door to the clothesline may matter more than a distant bed. If you have a spending limit, mention it early so the proposed work can focus on the most useful areas. A limit helps define priorities; it does not establish how much work the site will need.
What to include in a short enquiry
- Your suburb and the main areas needing attention.
- Approximate lawn or bed dimensions, if you know them.
- Whether growth is light, dense, tangled or hiding the ground.
- Gate width, steps, slopes and any difficult access.
- Pets, irrigation, hidden objects and plants to protect.
- Whether a suitable green bin has space available.
Photos are optional. A wide view and a closer view of the most difficult area can help Adrian understand the condition without requiring you to measure everything. Do not enter dense growth or move heavy objects just to get a photograph. Tell us about anything you cannot safely inspect.
Allow for the garden underneath
The mowing guide describes medium-density grass as short up to 10 cm, medium over 10 cm to 20 cm, and tall over 20 cm to 30 cm. Overgrown grass over 30 cm up to 1.2 m is assessed separately; heavy or dense growth can add to the price.
Long grass can conceal stones, edging and irrigation fittings. Dense growth can also make it difficult to judge the amount of material until work begins. The first visit may therefore need a staged approach rather than an aggressive cut across the whole property.
Pruning choices depend on the plant and its condition. An initial tidy does not promise instant lawn recovery or a mature hedge returning to shape immediately. Larger trees, hazardous limbs and work outside a safe accepted scope need appropriate specialist assessment.
Decide where the cuttings will go
Standard onsite cleanup and off-site waste removal are different parts of the job. A suitable green bin may help with a smaller amount of accepted material, but a reset can produce more than one bin can hold. Ask for removal to be included in the proposed scope if needed; off-site green-waste removal costs extra. Mention your bin capacity and any removal needs when requesting a quote.
