Can the Gardening Be Done While You Are at Work?

Keep your day free while your garden gets attention. Agree access and scope with our team, and arrange private completion photos.

Green Captains Australia 8 September 2026 3 min read

You do not need to spend your day waiting at home for gardening. Green Captains can work while you are away when safe access, the job and communication have been agreed beforehand. Our team can look after the approved areas and share private before-and-after photos as arranged, so you can see what has been done without rearranging your whole day.

For a first visit or unfamiliar garden, discuss how the onsite assessment and final price will be approved before work starts. Photos can support an initial estimate, but they do not replace that agreement. Being away should not mean accepting an undefined job.

Agree the work in plain terms

Specify the lawns, beds or hedges included, what should be left alone and where cuttings will go. If a shrub is sentimental or a small plant is easy to overlook, identify it clearly. Mention irrigation, damaged gates and anything hidden in long grass.

Also agree how you can be contacted if the site differs from the description. If a decision is needed and you cannot be reached, the affected work may need to wait. It is better to define that process in advance than assume permission for extra cutting, removal or cost.

Arrange access securely

Explain gate width, locks, steps and the route to the work area. Share sensitive access instructions privately through an agreed channel; do not place gate codes in a public review or photograph. Agree exactly which gates can be used and how they should be secured on departure.

Avoid leaving the property broadly accessible just because gardening is booked. If access depends on a neighbour or another contact, confirm their involvement first. A preferred appointment time still needs mutual confirmation before you make arrangements around it.

Make a clear plan for pets

Keep pets securely separated from machinery and the work area. Agree which gates will be used and how pets will remain contained while access is needed. Mention animals even if they are usually quiet or stay indoors. Our team should not have to guess which doors or gates must remain closed.

Before the visit, remove pet waste and move toys, bowls, hoses and loose items where practical. If something cannot be moved safely, point it out so the scope can account for it.

Decide how completion will be checked

  • Confirm an agreed contact method for questions about the work.
  • Arrange private before-and-after photos of the agreed work.
  • Specify the work areas to photograph and who should receive them.
  • Ask that personal details and unrelated private areas stay out of the images.
  • Agree where the green bin will be left and how gates will be secured.
  • If keys are provided, agree their return location privately; Green Captains can confirm the return with a private photo.

Completion photos are for reviewing the agreed job; arranging them does not imply permission to publish them. Standard onsite cleanup is part of the accepted work, while off-site green-waste removal is an extra to discuss beforehand.

Green Captains serves Bundoora and roughly a 20 km radius, mainly on Mondays and Tuesdays, weather permitting, with occasional Saturdays. Visit garden maintenance or the pricing guide, then send an enquiry about a visit while you are away. Include your suburb, priorities and access needs; photos are optional. Initial estimates are indicative, with the final scope and price agreed before work begins.
